Oyshii

It’s nice having friends who know you well enough to make assessments of what you’re doing or not doing in your life and can say tell you what’s what without hesitation.  There have been many personal  projects that have been on the back burner for far too long.  It’s also nice reading the blog of someone that you know in real life who inspires you.

One of the things I did last weekend was alter the feng shui of my house a little bit.  Okay, so I moved several hundred pounds of brick.  I’ve already been contacted with new assignments from new clients, at least one of the projects promises to be a lot of fun.  I believe that it isn’t so much magical and mystical but rather there is a bit of logic to some of that stuff, as with many other beliefs.  I don’t necessarily believe in astrology, but I do believe in karma and that what you put out there comes back to you in some form.

So I went to lunch with a friend to Oyshii, over by my house.  I dig that place.  They are consistently better at sushi than other all you can eat restaurants here in Vegas.  The prices are in-line with most of the other places.  It also helps that the more expensive Japanese restaurants that are in the same area don’t do all you can eat and don’t taste any better.  I’m a big fan of getting the most bang for my buck that I can.  My friend is now skinny and looking really good from working out a lot.  As a result she didn’t want to eat that much.  I used to order the most expensive rolls on their menu so I could get a lot for my dollar.  The satisfaction of paying $21  for all you can eat lunch and then ordering rolls that would cost more than that a la carte has given way to moderation and choosing better tasting rolls as opposed to choosing the most expensive rolls just because they’re expensive.  I guess I have matured in my taste for sushi.  But I would be still pretty pissed if I spent an assload of money and left the restaurant still hungry(Nagoya).

But anyway, this friend I went to lunch with is always inspirational and pretty positive and I need a little more of that in my life.

Balance

I have been a bit lax at updating this new blog.  Just now, I realized that sometimes it’s okay for words to be unaccompanied by art.  I was kind of focusing on just making visuals, but I must admit that I have a fondness for the written word.  I need to sit down and shoot some photos of my drawing pad.

I’m going to remove the nudity in my sketchbook drawings.  If’ I’m going to be more public with this blog, I need it to be more American Family friendly.  Or perhaps  I could just pixelate the naughty bits like in Japanese movies.

In any case, I’m feeling an itch to get some characters out of my system.  I have a tendency to think about an image or a character for almost too long of a time before I finally get them down onto paper or digital.  It’s like when you wait too long on making a move on a girl.  Her window of receptiveness will eventually close.  I gotta get them out of my head before they become stale.

I’m kind of enjoying drawing on newsprint again for stuff other than figure drawing.

Gonna send my tablet back to Wacom for repair.  I wish I could just trade it in for an upgrade.

Stormtrooper

This is a sketch for my Character Design class.  We’re still playing with exaggeration.

Black and White

I’m looking for more bold shapes and starker contrast.

I came across this method of quick sketching accidentally and I really like it.  I’m going to try it out with some other pieces.

Sketchbook

Here are some drawings I did at the Urologist’s office while I was waiting to have my prostate checked.  Some of them are from the lab while waiting to get my blood drawn.  Others are from the Open Workshop.  They’re all from my 8.5 x 11 sketchbook.
